LEAGUE RULES 

 

Section A: EQUIPMENT

1.      Each bar is required to have a BRIDGE and a SHORT STICK and adequate lighting for pool table.  It is the responsibility of the BAR OWNERS to ensure that the Pool Table is clean, well lit and presentable for all pool matches.

Section B: FORMAT

1.      Start time is 8:00 PM with a grace time till 8:30 PM.  THIS IS A MUST 8:30 PM START and no exceptions.

2.      A 2-point penalty will be handed out for each week’s score sheet NOT received.

3.      To cancel a match, you MUST call no later than 5:00 PM the day of the match.

4.      The Pool table MUST BE made available to the AWAY TEAM at 7:30 PM for practice.

5.      Both teams must keep score.  The WINNING team is responsible for calling in the scores at the end of the match to 718/845-2471.  BOTH TEAMS MUST email the score sheet to skipbarto@aol.com .  Standings will be sent via email to team captains.  Any scoresheets not received within 10 days of a played match WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.  All individual stats from the scoresheets deemed NOT ACCEPTABLE will NOT BE INCLUDED IN FINAL STATS.

6.      A player may ONLY play 4 games in any match and may ONLY play 1 game in any set.

7.      A team needs 6 players.  You may play with a minimum of 4 players, but will be penalized 1 point for each game shorthanded.  (With 4 players, the 5th game of each singles set and the 2nd game of each doubles set will be forfeited.  With 5 players, 2 double games will be forfeited).

8.      The HOME team is obliged to supply the money for the pool games.

9.      Team captains will handle all disputes.  If they CANNOT come to an agreement, either call a rules committee member or replay the game.

10.  You MUST CALL ALL SHOTS and are expected to make an HONEST effort to sink, not just hit, their own ball on every shot, impossible or not.

11.  A run out is all 7 object balls and the 8-ball on a single turn at the table.

12.  A roster must be submitted by the 3rd week of the season.  There will be a 2-point penalty for each week that the roster is late.  There will be no roster changes allowed after week 4 without prior LEAGUE PRESIDENT’S approval.

13.  CAPTAINS:  Players may not bring drinks with them to the matches.  This includes soda, water or alcohol.

14.  No one under the age of 21 will be allowed to play in the league.

15.  NO coaching once a player is playing.  The only exception is in doubles, where PARTNERS ONLY may coach each other.  However, for any coaching or assisting your partner, the player MUST STEP AWAY from the pool table for any assistance from his/her PARTNER.   

16.  Captains of Each Team should make up their lineups and then exchange with the Opposing Captain.  There is then no advantage to either team.

 

 

 

Section C:  GAME, CUE & 8 BALL RULES

1.      When a player has CHOICE, any ball may be hit first (except the 8 ball) to make a decision to make the choice of high or low.

2.      Jumping the cue ball intentionally is a loss of turn.  If shooting the 8 ball, it is a loss of game.

3.      When shooting the 8 ball, it must be hit 1st but doesn’t have to go clean.

4.      A player LOSES the game if any of the following occurs:

a.      Making the 8 ball when it’s not your object ball

b.      Any Scratch or Foul while shooting the 8 ball

c.       Knocking the 8 ball off the table

d.      Making the 8 ball in the wrong pocket

e.      Not calling the 8 ball

f.        Knocking the cue ball off the table while shooting the 8 ball.

5.      PLAYER shooting the 8 ball does not have to hit it if the player does not have a clear path to the center of the 8 ball.  THE PLAYER WILL LOSE THE GAME IF HE SCRATCHES.

6.      After a scratch shot, if only one object ball is left, the ENTIRE BALL must be in front of the line to be a legal shot.  The player shooting has the choice of spotting the ball or leaving it in position for a kick shot.

7.      Any movement of the cue ball constitutes a loss of turn.  When shooting the 8 ball, it is a loss of the game.  If an object ball is accidentally moved, the ball is placed back in its original spot.  The offending player loses the turn.  (The league will allow touch foul only if both captains agree before the match starts).

8.      NO JAPPING.  ANY player reported for JAPPING more than once is subject to dismissal from the league.

9.      A forfeit score will be 12 points for the winner and 0 points for the loser.

10.  Any protest must be called in immediately to the league president or a rules committee member at the time that the problem occurs.

11.  If a team forfeits an away game, its next game vs. the same team will stay as an “AWAY” game.

12.  On the BREAK SHOT, 2 object balls must hit a rail.

 

Section D:  PLAYOFFS

1.      The top 4 teams in each division will make the playoffs.  If POSSIBLE, the teams of each division will play against themselves in the first round.

2.      Tie breakers to separate team:

a.       Won/Loss record

b.      Head to Head

c.       5 games of singles – a coin flip will decide who breaks the first, third and fifth game. (THIS RULE APPLIES only If playoff round ties at 19/19.).

3.      Playoff matches will be 1 night except for the finals which will be 2 nights – Home and Away.

4.      A player must play in at least 7 single matches in 7 separate weeks to qualify for the playoffs.  Forfeits and buys DO NOT COUNT towards these totals.

 

THE WINNING TEAM IS RESPONSIBLE FOR CALLING IN THE SCORE AT THE END OF EACH EVENING’S MATCH TO 718/845-2471
