What? It’s a digital replacement for the paper scoresheets that have been in use from the beginning of time

Why? Quite simply, it’s a lot easier to use and offers several useful features for the team captains, players and league operator.

How? The primary design is having both team captains open the app in the bar & use the internet to swap lineups. There are a few ways to utilize this app but the best (and easiest, way is via the internet. Most bars have free WiFi and it’s just a matter of asking them for the ID & Password. Both captains open the app on their phone or iPad by clicking the “Scoresheet” link on the bottom of the main pool league webpage.
Either captain will start by setting up the match on their phone/iPad and when done will be given a 4 digit code. Give that code to the opposing captain to enter into their app and have them press the “Join” button. That’s basically it but detailed instruction on how to use this app follow later on in these instructions.

Features:

· No waiting to pass a sheet back and forth. Each captain can view a copy of the main sheet and the win/loss results as the match progresses.

· Once I have the roster (which should have been submitted before the 1^st match but never is), when you open up the app, you’ll be able to import all your player names to be used during the match.

· Before actually starting the match, from your player list you’ll be able to select only the players that are in attendance so that when you’re doing your lineups only those players selected will be visible.

· Anytime during a particular round, each captain can begin entering player names for the next round of play at the same time. Not until both captains have “Locked” their selections can anyone see the lineups.

· Once the match is set up, there’s a 4 digit “View” code that you can share with any of the players on either team (or anyone else in the entire world) which allows them to see the scoresheet and view the results as they’re entered by the captains. All they need to do is open the link from the website, enter the 4 digit code in the “Just Watching” field and select “Watch”. No more looking for the sheet itself to see when you’re playing, what the score is, so far, or who has won or lost their game.

· During the match, the league operator can view the progress of all of the matches being played during the evening and will be able to save the final scoresheets without you having to mail them in (you’ll still have the option to save/print/message them locally on your phone/iPad if you so desire).

Steps to “Start a “Live Match” (both captains should follow the steps below explicitly)

1. Go the Pool League website and access the link for the current year’s stats using a web browser (Safari is recommended but any browser will do)

2. On the bottom of the main stats page is a link labeled “Scoresheet”. Click it. (this will download the latest scoresheet app to your phone)

3. Click “Start a New Match”. This resets just about everything on the app except for your team name and whatever roster you had loaded from the previous week.

4. Check your roster section below. It’s taken directly from the league website after the 1^st week of the season (or if you’ve actually submitted a roster, it’ll be available on the 1^st week). Whenever you want/need to refresh it, pick your team from the dropdown below and select the “Import” option. Once the roster is displayed, you can choose whichever players are in attendance for the match so as to limit the number of players displayed on the “Lineup” tab. If you want to add a player to this list, you may do so, but it won’t add it directly to your official roster. When your scoresheet is received by the league operator and they do the stats for the week, any new players that played a match this week will be added to your roster and available for import the following week. Note that while you’re on the Lineup tab and entering names, you can type a new name in there even though it’s not currently on your roster.

5. Now that you’re set up, this is the most important step. Only one captain will go into the “Exchange” tab and press “Start a Live Match”. When pressed, this will display two 4 digit codes for you. Give the top code to the other captain who will now open their “Exchange” tab, type in that code and select “Join”

6. Now each captain can open the “Lineup” tab, start entering the players that they want in the 1^st round and when done, select “Lock”. What this does is lock your selections and the app will wait until the opposing captain locks their round at which time you can both open the “Sheet” tab and start the match.
Note: Whatever either captain enters into any matches on the Lineup tab is not visible to the other captain or anyone who might be “Viewing” the match until both captains have physically locked that section in the Lineup tab.

7. Each captain from this point on will mark each of the games as they progress with who wins each game. Either or both captains can mark the same game at the same time as a win for a player. It doesn’t matter as long as they both match. In the event that they don’t, both scoresheets will clearly indicate that there’s a mismatch and it’s up to the captains to agree on who actually won the game and mark it as such. Note that in the event of a runout or 8 ball on break just click the actual “W” next to their name to cycle through the three options available (“W”, “R” or “8”). In doing so, the players that won with a “R” or “8” will be listed at the bottom of the scoresheet in the fields provided.

8. That 2^nd “View” code allows anyone who wants to keep track of what’s going on during the match. Simply give that code to anyone who wants it and all they have to do is open the app the same way that you did but only enter that code at the bottom of the “Settings” tab and select “Join”

9. I’ve tested this app out in a live setting a few times and can assure you that the batter drain is minimal. The main cause of batter drain with the app is how bright your screen is and how long you have it on. When the app is running in the background, there is no battery drain at all.
